Quick verdict: Worth it, with a caveat.

If you are stopping in Costa Maya and want a relaxing beach day away from the ship, Jamie’s at Hotel Blue Reef in Mahahual delivered most of what we were looking for.

The staff were good, and we enjoyed the food and drinks. The setting worked well for simply relaxing instead of trying to pack several activities into one port day.

What we liked

The day was easygoing. The food and drinks were good, the staff treated us well, and it gave us a simple place to spend time off the ship.

What to know about the vendors

There were vendors around the beach area, but most moved along after a simple “no.” The one annoyance for us was a masseuse who returned several times during the day. It was not enough to ruin the experience, but it is something I would want people to know before going.

Getting there

It was a short taxi ride from the Costa Maya cruise port. For a simple beach day, I would bring towels, sunscreen, some cash and a relaxed attitude.

Who I think it is good for

Jamie’s makes the most sense for someone who wants to get off the ship, have food and drinks and spend several hours relaxing rather than doing a structured excursion.

Worth It Scout verdict

Worth it, with a caveat. We enjoyed the staff, food, drinks and overall beach day. The repeated massage solicitation was the only real negative.

My original takeaway

Jamie’s Blue Hotel is a great place to relax while in Costa Maya. Staff and the food and drinks were good. The vendors weren’t too bad and usually left with a simple no. The only issue was the masseuse as she came back every few hours. If looking for a day off the ship or just a place to relax this is it. It is a short taxi ride from the port. Take towels, sunscreen and have fun.
