Quick verdict: Yes for green water. No as a standalone fix.
A 36W inline UV helped clear my roughly 1,200-gallon pond after I added a bypass so the unit was not over-flowed. It did not replace foam, a bucket filter, or cleaning.
If you are asking โdo UV pond filters really work,โ the honest answer is: they work on suspended green water when flow through the unit is controlled.
My pond has goldfish, plants, mechanical filtration, and a waterfall return. Green water was the problem the UV was meant to solve.

The UV I bought
Half Off Ponds Shock Wave 36-watt inline clarifier. I added it to the system I was already building instead of buying a sealed all-in-one filter.
This is not a long-term durability review yet. So far it is about install, plumbing, and whether green water improved.

What it did / what it didnโt
It helped with pea-soup water โ the fine algae floating in the water column. It did not pick up leaves, fish waste, or string algae. That is what 20-PPI foam and the 5-gallon bucket filter are for.
Donโt send every gallon through the UV
More GPH through the clarifier is not automatically better. UV needs contact time. I wanted waterfall circulation and UV flow at the same time, so I split the pump output.
Part of the water goes through the UV. The rest bypasses it and keeps the pond moving.
The 3-way connector
I used a DONGKER 3-way pond hose connector to make that split. Cheap part. It let me tune UV flow without changing the main pump.

What UV does not replace
Mechanical filtration, biological media, a pump sized for the plumbing, and maintenance. If the pond is dirty and unfiltered, a UV alone will disappoint.
Is it worth it?
For green water in this pond, yes โ with the bypass. I would not buy a UV expecting it to clean everything by itself.
Worth It Scout takeaway: UV pond filters work on suspended green water when you control the flow. I would buy the 36W unit and the 3-way bypass again for this setup.
